- [Instructor] In this session we'll explore basic descriptive statistics. Understanding your data is crucial to avoiding mistakes in your analysis. There are many ways to explore data, but in this session we're going to introduce the two primary descriptive commands that Stata users often use when they first open up new data. We're going to introduce the describe and summarize command. Describe offers a basic description of your data and allows you to explore the nature of your variables. Summarize offers basic statistics, such as means and observation counts that allow you to start building an initial picture of how your data might be shaped. Both are very frequently used. So, let's head over to Stata and explore these concepts using the auto training data. Here we are, with the auto data already loaded.
