Here's an overview of how the online Square dashboard works. Don't worry if you don't have an actual desktop computer or laptop to do this. You can use Square exclusively on the tablet or the phone. It's perfectly okay. In fact, in later videos I'll be moving to the tablet directly itself. But there is one mean advantage to setting up your shop on the computer in that it's just much easier as we have a nice large screen to work with. Now I went to squareup.com and I've logged in. It's going to take you directly to the dashboard.
So let's take a look around at the user interface so that you can become familiar with it. The Square icon up on the top left hand side will take you back to your main dashboard at any time which is where we are now. There's four links across the top. The first one is sales. This is where we are now in which you can see sales reports, though we don't have anything in there right now. You can click on items to start adding things to your item library and we'll go through that. You can click employees to start adding and editing employees at your shop, if you have them.
And finally business, to work with coupon codes, linking up your bank account if you haven't done that already, editing your public profile which we'll talk about later, and setting up all your shop policies. Now in the top right-hand side of the screen, this is where you can go into your account settings, you can also order supplies, like stickers of credit card logos that you can put on your door to let your customers know that you accept credit cards. You can also order a card reader in case you clicked on the wrong option the first time you were creating your account or decide you need one later.
But right now let's take care of all the square account items that aren't actually shop related before we move on to start adding items. So I'm going to click on account settings. Here's where you can change your password and your email address in case those things change. You can also add a security question if you want. You can either click cancel or save when you're done but there's one more section that's not actually shop related. I'm going to show you that now. That's your email preferences from Square itself. To get into that screen, click business at the top of the screen and choose email notifications.
Here's where you can decide what kind of emails you want to get from Square. Now you can choose to get emails whenever any transaction happens, whenever a deposit's made into your account, and finally you need to decide what kind of emails you want to get from Square itself. As in news and updates about the Square product or newsletters from Square. So the first thing you want to do after you've set up your account like we just did is to go into your account settings and change your password if you want to or add a security question, and then come right in here to your email notifications, and get everything all set up the way you want it, so that you know exactly what kind of emails you're going to be getting from Square.
Up next, I'll show you how to customize your public profile, which is what your customers are going to be able to see online about you.
