- [Voiceover] Hi there. Welcome to Up and Running with Adobe SpeedGrade CC. I'm Patrick Inhofer. And in this title, we're going to explore the essential aspects of getting up and running with Adobe's very powerful, dedicated color correction app, SpeedGrade CC. Now, color correction is an important finishing step in almost all video or filmwork flows. Most of us are familiar with plug-ins, color correction plug-ins, in our non-linear editor. SpeedGrade falls into the category of a dedicated app.
Color correction is what it does. SpeedGrade CC is now also part of Adobe's Creative Cloud. Therefore, if you're a member of Creative Cloud, you have access to, and can download, SpeedGrade CC. So, if you're new to color correction, or stumped by SpeedGrade, then this title is absolutely for you. Now, SpeedGrade CC is Adobe's first update to SpeedGrade, and it features a new stream-lined interface and has a ton of new features which we'll be exploring throughout this title, including some new integration with Adobe Premiere Pro CC.
Of course, we're going to get you started right off the bat with SpeedGrade's new interface layout, and how to get footage and timelines and sequences into SpeedGrade, and then we're going to be jumping into SpeedGrade's primaries toolset. This is really where you start seeing the speed in the name SpeedGrade, and it features a layer-based approach to color correction, as well as this nifty 12 way color corrector, that really allows you to make very targeted, very isolated corrections, extremely, extremely quickly.
Then of course we're going to move into secondary tools, such as masks and keys that allow us to fix problems, focus the eye, which allows us to refine our color corrections, even more precisely. One of the huge new areas of focus here in SpeedGrade CC is the shot matching toolset. Things like the Snapshot browser, the Continuity checker, the Shot matcher, a whole host of features that allow us to quickly and easily compare and move grades between shots.
And then there's Look Creation. Who doesn't love creating looks? It's usually what everyone wants to jump through first. But, first we gotta build the foundation before we start talking about looks. I'm also going to spend a little bit of time talking about an important new emerging workflow over the past couple of years, which is working with log recorded footage and raw camera formats. And then, finally, it's off to rendering and sharing, I mean what's the point of all this work if we can't get it out of SpeedGrade. I'll show you how we can do that. One of the key aspects to get you up and running with Adobe SpeedGrade CC, has been taking a project-based approach to this training title, where I've provided you with three different scenes from three different types of projects, that are representative of the types of projects I frequently encounter, and as part of that project-based training, I take the time to explain some colorist lingo, that way, when you're working in SpeedGrade, and you're working with a director, or you're with a DP, and they start dropping some common terms on you, you'll know exactly what they're talking about.
I do really feel it's important that you not just watch these, but play along with footage as you learn these tools. You'll start developing some muscle memory and start connecting your physical movements with the visual feedback that you'll see on the screen, and that's essential to really internalizing all the things we're talking about here in SpeedGrade CC. We also revised several movies to reflect the impact Direct Link has on managing media, tracking, rendering, etc.

Q: Why am I getting the 'File Not Supported' error when reconnecting to the source files in Premiere Pro?
A: If you get the 'File Not Supported' error when reconnecting to the source files in Premiere Pro - this is a problem with the reconnect dialog in
1. Open the Premiere Pro project in Premiere.2. During the reconnect dialog click Locate and navigate to Exercise files > Media and then to the sub-folder of media the dialog is asking for...3. Here is the trick: You MUST actually select/highlight the first file that Premiere is asking for. The easiest thing is to click the 'displayexact name' button and then *actually click on the file* that matches the name.
