Frequency modulation (FM)

Frequency modulation (FM)

(electronic notes) (electronic notes) - [Instructor] Now we're going to explore another popular interaction between oscillators, where one oscillator actually modulates the frequency of another oscillator. This is often referred to as FM for short. A modulating oscillator is called the modulator, and the oscillator that's being modulated is called the carrier. Now this creates very interesting harmonic spectre all by itself, so we're going to start with some pretty pure wave forms, such as a sine wave. I'm going to start out using the template for Blank synth. I'm going to grab the sine wave out of oscillator one, and take that over to my VCA input. Make sure I've got sound, (electronic popping) it's tuned to a very low octave, I'll put it up to eight feet. (electronic humming) Increase the sustain, make sure we've got a good reading on the oscilloscope. (electronic humming) Also tuned it up, (electronic notes) to a middle semi tone, for some reason, the "Blank synth" template has all…
