FM drum sounds - Modular V Tutorial

FM drum sounds
(percussive synth sounds) - [Instructor] In the previous movie, we introduced the concept of using one oscillator, a modulator, to rapidly change the frequency of the first modulator, a carrier. We did it at audio rates, this technique was called frequency modulation, or FM for short. We're focusing on creating some brand new timbres, interesting sustained tones. However, if we vary the relationship between these two oscillators during the course of a note, we can come up with some pretty interesting percussive sounds, and modular synths are pretty popular for creating interesting, strange percussive sounds these days. Let's go ahead and recreate our patch, taking our sine wave over to the VCA, setting sustain to a higher level, tuning this oscillator up to at least 16 foot. (low percussive sound) Nice low bass sine wave to begin with. (low percussive sound) We'll go ahead and take the sine wave out of the second oscillator and patch it to an FM input on the first oscillator. I'll…
