Amplitude and ring modulation (AM)
(synthesizer tone) - [Instructor] Next we're going to play with another classic technique called amplitude and ring modulation. Again, I'm using the blank synth template, if you have something in this template, switch to a different template, such as one oscillator one filter, then back to blank synth again to clear it out. I'm going to start with sine waves, because they're supposed to be very pure. So that makes it easier to tell when harmonics are being added or changed. I take the sine wave right to my VCA, play a note (low hum) defaults to a very low tuning with a blank synth so I'll go ahead and set my oscillators up to a nice default tuning of maybe around eight feet, there we go. (medium tone) Little more sustained, (louder medium tone) and in this first version I'll just take a second oscillator and have it amplitude modulate that VCA.
