- This next tune, "Who Do You Love", uses accented notes. And accented notes just simply means you play that accented note louder than the other notes around it. So, to demonstrate, I'm gonna play some eighth notes, and I'm gonna accent the first one. So, I'll play an accented eighth note, followed by three quiet, normal notes, and then an accented eighth note followed by three normal notes, again. (playing eighth notes) Now, blues beats don't always have to be played on your high-hat and snare and kick, or ride, snare and kick. Sometimes you can just play them on a tom-tom. So, this is how Jeff Simon plays it with George Thorogood and the Destroyers on the song, "Who Do You Love". This song's also a great demonstration of how accents can be applied inside of the beat.
