- I want to talk a little bit here about the general tuning of the instrument and set some standards here for the site regarding terminology. To start with tuning, I encourage everyone to, if you don't have a tuner, get a tuner. I encourage any tuner that can fit in your guitar case it probably going to be fine. There's hundreds of available options for tuners. I use a little clip-on tuner when I'm playing live, in the studio I have more of a bigger unit that sits on a music stand. There's plenty of apps for smartphones that have great tuners. Any tuner is better than no tuner is the basic approach here. But as far as terminology for the site, sometimes there's, you know, people have varied ways to talk about the strings themselves. We're going to be 440, standard tuning here, and we're going to refer to this (strumming single string) this higher E note here as the high E or the first string.
