"Texas Flood" by Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Texas Flood" by Stevie Ray Vaughan

- One of the greatest blues men of all time is Stevie Ray Vaughan, and his drummer Chris Layton lays down a really cool beat on this song called Texas Flood. And it goes like this. (playing drums) Now to play that beat, let's start off, forget about the bounce stroke that he's doing, let's just start off playing the straight, kinda, feel the meat of the beat, okay? It goes like this. (playing drums) Now, we're gonna add a bounced beat. And the way you play this, it's kinda fast to play two deliberate single-stroke hits, so we're gonna actually bounce the stick. And I like to think of it as a snap, let it bounce once, and then catch it, so you get a quick bounced note. You get three consecutive notes like this. (hitting cymbal) So let's incorporate that into the beat. It sounds like this. (playing drums) Now we're just gonna add one more bass drum to make the beat authentic to the song. And it goes like this. (playing drums)
