"Rootsman Skanking" by Bunny Wailer

"Rootsman Skanking" by Bunny Wailer

- [Voiceover] I turned my snares back on for this next song, which is Rootsman Skanking by the great Slide Dunbar. And it goes like this. One, two, one, two, three, four. So let's break that beat down, and one of the first things you'll notice is that sometimes there's rim clicks, and other times, there's a hit on the snare. So, let's just get the basic building blocks of this rhythm down and start here. One, two, one, two, three, four. Next, we're gonna play the same beat, but we're gonna open the high hat on beat three of the first measure and beat one of the second measure, like this. One, two, one, two, three, four. Next, let's start adding some eighth notes in with the right hand on the high hat. One, two, one, two, three, four. And finally, we'll add in some extra notes on the high hat with the right hand, and complete the rhythm like this. One, two, one, two, three, four.
