Rim shot

- This next tune, Straight, No Chaser uses something called a rim shot, and a rim shot is a technique where you hit the tip of the stick onto the drum head at the same time that you're hitting the shoulder of the stick on the rim, so both the shoulder and the tip of the stick are hitting the drum head and the rim at the same time. It makes a loud explosive crack, and it sounds like this. (drum beat) Sometimes you miss it, I got a little more rim than drum hat in that one. (drum beat) Now, when it's all put together it sounds like this. One, two, one, two, three, four. (drum beat) So, now let's practice the beginning part of that beat, because the snare drum and the ride are doing this interplay thing that's kinda tough to figure out, so let's just practice that beat over and over again and loop it, so it's gonna go like this. One, two, one, two, three, four. (drum beat) So, now let's practice the part of the fill where he adds in the snare drum notes and that rim shot on beat three…
