- The next beat we're gonna learn is called "I hung my head" and it's a Sting tune, that Vinny Colaiuta plays drums on. It's in 9/8 so there's nine beats per measure and the eighth note gets the count. And we're gonna accent every other note so it's gonna sound like this when it's all put together. 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9. 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9. (drums) (percussion) So now let's break it down. We're gonna begin by just playing this beat in 4/4 and the snare falls on some interesting places. So let's just kind of get that left hand falling in the right spot on the snare drum. So let's play this for now. 1...2. 1.2.3.4. (drums) (percussion) The next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna add one more high hat hit to that phrase. So essentially what we're doing is taking a 4/4 beat or you can think of it as a 8/8 beat. Eighth note gets the count. There's eight eighth notes in a measure. So now we're gonna add one extra eighth note so it's 9/8. This is what I mean by that, let's play this beat here…
