- Here's another picking pattern exercise, exercise number two. We looked in exercise number one at how the basic construct of the pattern works, the basic mechanics of down strokes are the numbered notes and upstrokes are the ands of those numbered notes, one and two and three and four and down up down up down up down up Exercise number two's going to take it one step further with some challenge with changing strings, looking at how the pattern, when it's broken into more musical phrases, still remains the same even though you can break these things. We're not just, like in exercise one, just repeating a basic, functional pattern. This is more musical pattern, and so what I'll do is I'll play it through here at 80 beats a minute, and then we'll talk about it. (Metronome clicks) One Two Three (picks guitar) All right.
