Open hi-hat foot splash

- This next tune uses a technique called an open hi-hat foot splash. What this is is stomping your foot down on the hi-hat pedal in a way that makes the hi-hat cymbals pinch together real quick and open up. It's kinda like simulating crash cymbals in an orchestra would do, but doing it with the hi-hat. An open hi-hat foot splash works like this. You can either tap your toe on the pedal like this, (plays drums) or you can dig your heel into the pedal like this. (plays drums) I think Jimmy Cobb played one of the greatest fills of all time in the song "So What". He does a few really really special things in this. One is he does an open hi-hat foot splash and another is he plays with a brush in one hand and a stick in the other hand and then he switches them after the fill.
