- Hi, I'm Rich Lackowski, and I'm the author of the On the Beaten Path series of instructional books. We're going to cover a lot of ground in this video, but don't worry. We're going to start from the very, very beginning. Level one begins with the parts of a drum, parts of a drum set. You're going to learn what drum heads to use, how to set up the drums, what drumsticks to use, how to change a drum head. You're going to learn everything you need to know to get started playing the drums. Most importantly, we're going to play a bunch of rock beats, real rock beats from real songs. We're going to learn how to play songs by Led Zeppelin, songs by Nirvana, songs by Aerosmith, and tons more. The cool thing about that is you're going to be able to play the exact beats that each drummer played on the recordings. One very cool thing is, you can go out and buy the songs. You can hear how the masters themselves incorporated the beats into the songs. One other thing. All the music, all the beats that are in this course were selected very specifically. Each beat builds on the previous beat. You're going to learn how to play the drums from the very beginning. We're going to have a lot of fun doing it. There's a lot to cover, so I can't wait to get into it. Let's get started.
