- The next thing I want to cover here in good practice habits is working with a metronome. A lot of us have a love/hate relationship with metronomes, and I understand that. They essentially maybe make things potentially a little stiff musically, or make us feel a little reined in, but there are really positive things that we can get out of working with a metronome, and I really encourage it. And part of that rhythmic guideline is something that we actually can use in developing a better sense of rhythm. We want to know that if we're in a jam session, if we're onstage, whatever we're doing outside of practice, we want to know that we trust our sense of rhythm enough to give us our own rhythmic guidelines. So, practice with a metronome helps us establish that.
