Drum fill from "Back in Black"

Drum fill from "Back in Black"

- Sometimes a drum fill is just played between the kick, snare, and hi-hat. And here's an example of that from "Back in Black". Here we go. One, two. One, two, three, four. (drumming) This next beat incorporates triplets. A triplet is a group of three notes played in the time of two notes of the same value. Triplets are identified by a small numeral three over the note group, and are counted just like they sound. Trip-le-let. Trip-le-let. Trip-le-let. Trip-le-let. When notated, triplets look like this. Quarter not triplets, eighth note triplets, sixteenth note triplets. The next fill that we're gonna learn is one that Alex van Halen, one of my favorite drummers of all time, played on a song called "Jamie's Cryin'". And it's how he kicks off the song. It starts with a fill, and the fill sounds like this. One, two. One, two, three, four. (drumming) Now let's make the fill a little bit easier to start off with. That first triplet's a little bit fast, so we're just gonna get rid of that…
