- This next tune is called Stone Crazy, and it uses a double-stroke roll, and open double-stroke roll, and it actually uses a version of the open double-stroke roll, which is called the 9-stroke roll, and first I'm gonna demonstrate an open-stroke roll. (drum beat) Now, each stick is bouncing and playing the drum twice, right, right, left, left, right, right, left, left. (drum beat) Now, a 9-stroke roll does exactly that, we're playing nine strokes, so the motions of the sticks are like one E and a two. Okay? Right, left, right, left, right, but I'm gonna bounce all the sticks except for the last hit. 9-stroke roll sounds like this. (drum beat) This fill's pretty cool because it incorporates rolls into the fill, and when it's all put together it sounds like this. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. (drum beat) So, now let's play a measure of just the beat, and then we'll play that fill with the 9-stroke rolls incorporated, and we'll loop that pattern over and…
