- The next fill we're going to learn is a little bit more dramatic than the rest. It is playing triplets consecutively on the snare drum and the floor tom and this is how Irv Cottler incorporated the fill into the theme from New York, New York. It sounds like this. (drumming) Let's play that fill in a slightly different way. I'm going to play the exact same thing, but I'm going to put the bass drum on all four beats during that triplet build. And I'm going to put this in context of a beat. So it goes like this. (drumming) In this next tune, Moanin', we're going to play a multiple bounce roll. And it's also called a buzz stroke roll and a press roll. Three names for the same thing. And what we're going to do is bounce the stick multiple times, okay, and we're going to alternate it. So it creates sort of a white noise type of sizzle sound, and it goes like this. (drumming) Crescendo indicates that the volume is gradually increasing.
