Upcoming in tech
- Nobody had their phone, they had the phone that was in their house. Back then, if you had told everybody, oh, you're going to have, one day, your own personal phone that you can just carry around in your pocket and that's yours and you can do whatever you want with it, 15 years ago that was, maybe not a foreign concept, but that's kind of crazy that everybody will just have their own phone. Now it's just considered totally normal. Take that comparison and think about the fact that Elon Musk and the government and tons of other people are figuring out how to get us to Mars, and we're thinking about how foreign that is, but they're saying things like it will one day be common for people to just live on a planet outside of Earth because think about, Earth is a finite resource. I think it's totally understandable that within a certain time frame, I'm not saying it's going to be 10 or 15 years, but what really excites me about where technology is going is, how will living on another planet one day be normalized and what kind of technology will be involved in that? - The next exciting thing in tech for me is seeing how much tech is supporting the sharing economy and the gig economy. I love seeing us getting back to what I hope is being more human. It's something that I like, is tech finally getting that balance right of helping people connect, but not being so intrusive in people's lives where it's actually making us more disconnected, so that excites me to see that kind of trend in tech. - The most exciting thing for me in tech is usually the future because it's not just the future, it's the unknown future. So, I don't know what will happen in five years or in 10 years or in 15 years. Probably more than a decade ago we didn't have the iPhone and that means we didn't have devices that look like an iPhone, so we weren't having devices that were multi-touch and probably 15 years ago, we didn't have GPS or cameras on our phones. And not just the tech itself, but we didn't have the idea, so at the time, 15 years ago, people was asking, why do we need a camera on a phone? And now it's something that lives with us all the time. So, I remember this, it was 2001, I was on a train and I was using ICQ, not sure if you remember ICQ, anyway, a messenger like a WhatsApp Messenger, and I was doing some chats there on the train, and no one was believing me at the time. So, on the train and you are sending me a message? And now it's something that is with us all the time, so I don't know what will happen in 10 years, in five years, and I think that's the most exciting thing for me in tech, is the unknown future. - One of the most exciting things in tech right now, in my opinion, is the field of augmented reality. I personally think augmented reality has even bigger potential than virtual reality. Virtual reality is right now popular with the gaming field, but augmented reality, it has the potential to be popular with everyone who has a mobile smartphone. It's better positioned to take advantage of the smartphone space because you have an audience right out of the box. There's also four companies right now that are the big leaders in tech. There's new players coming in and they're also trying to become the leader, so there's a bit of jockeying for position to see who will become the leader in augmented reality and it's kind of interesting for me to see how that will play out.
