- [Instructor] One important goal of our IoT system is making IoT devices talk to each other and to interoperate with each other. This level of interoperability utilizes the underlying communication connections for data transmissions. Take our home as an example. We have connected devices such as smart appliances, TVs, music players, lights, locks, security cameras, garage controllers from different vendors, and they can all be controlled possibly by a central controller that can take your voice commands and control other devices wirelessly. All these are related to the interoperability between the applications. Let's take a further look at this in different OS-based applications from a networking perspective. Suppose you are in the living room right now, and you want to turn off all smart lights in the room upstairs. On your end, you issue the voice control commands to a central controller and home.
