- [Instructor] Let's look at how to enable the Edge Computing on the typical Edge device. A gateway, a gateway can interact with field IOT devices, process data, manage data, and interface with external networks. A gateway as an Edge device can be deployed for multiple purposes. For example, it can be part of a smart meter to interact with external cloud end point to process and transmit the electric energy consumption data collected from your devices at home. It can also be equipped with some machine learning capabilities to autonomously make predictive decisions on the sensing data to tell us how to reduce the energy consumption. For some proprietary IOT systems, the internal and external networks can be deployed within the same domain of an organization, which can bring some security benefits such as preventing the IOT system from external attacks.
