- [Instructor] Embedded systems are computing devices that sit on the edge of an IoT product and are mostly responsible for connecting sensors to the Internet. Remember an IoT product is a discrete product, a system, or an environment. An embedded system, sometimes called an embedded chipset, is a dedicated computer system that lives on the edge of the network. Instead of a CPU, it runs an MPU, and instead of a traditional operating system, it runs an RTOS, otherwise known as a real-time operating system. Embedded system, or chipset, may include radios and sensors. The purpose of the embedded system is to manage communications between the sensors and the OT network. Taking the data load from the sensor, wrapping it into a protocol, and sending it along the OT network. Embedded system also stores and executes local applications, analytics, and security.
