In this lecture we begin exploring infrastructure category with Compute Services. Here we learn about bare metal and virtual servers.
- [Presenter] Hi friend, now, we shall move to IBM Catalog and Category the infrastructure part. The infrastructure part consists of compute, storage, network, security, containers and Vmware options. So, we would understand each of them, one by one. Now, in this part, we are going to understand what is compute. So, with compute, you can build your virtual environment either with Bare Metal Server or Virtual Server.
These are two available options provided by IBM. These are not provided by third party vendor or any other thing. So, you can choose from them. So, what is Bare Metal Server and Virtual Server? Bare Metal Server is simply the server which is the conceptual thing, which comes in your mind when you visualize the server, where data is kept, stored and upon the Internet.
It consists of four to 72 cores, for your processor-intensive tasks. It is preferred when you post something on Cloud which need processor-intensive tasks, like computation, calculation or any other thing, or graphical, high end graphical things and this input-output intensive workloads. It provide performance, flexibility, on-demand provisioning and control.
Here, there is another option, the Virtual Server, which consists of up to 56 cores and 242 GB or RAM so, it has very high processing capabilities and RAM. It can be for Public Virtual Cloud or Dedicated Virtual Cloud. So, as we compare, if you need very processor-intensive tasks, you should choose Bare Metal Server but if your task is consisting of large amount of data and you need high constraints of RAM, so you can go with Virtual Server.
It can be a Public Virtual Server or Dedicated Virtual Server. The price rates for them differ. The Dedicated Virtual Server is more expensive than Public Virtual Server. So, we shall explore the difference between the two. You can see that when you would move to IBM Cloud, the Catalog section and go to infrastructure part and there you could choose compute section then these two options as you can see earlier in this.
As these two options would appear. So, how you can choose between them. So, Bare Metal Server has the page looks when you click on Bare Metal Server, it consists of full detail about it and you can add it from here. Similarly, there is Virtual Server, here comes the options and you can select anyone and add to your application. So, this simple thing. Not very difficult.
The headache of hosting and maintaining your data online over the network and all the networking part goes to IBM team and you only need two of these thing. In virtual environment as well as the physical, Bare Metal environment you are not worrying about your data. It can be very highly scalable. So, this is the first category.
The next, part, we will continue other categories, so thanks for this.
