- Another important consideration to make is that text in other languages is often formatted using very different standards. Beyond the characters used for the words themselves, there are typographical conventions and punctuation rules to consider. Let's talk about emphasis. In English, some of the most common forms of emphasizing portions of text are to make them bold, to make them italic, or to underline them. But in many languages, emphasis isn't handled the same way. The problem is that some writing systems just can't be italicized or bolded. Some languages do have very similar concepts. For example, Arabic fonts don't have italic typefaces that slant to the right, but some do have ironic typefaces that slant to the left. Many languages, though, use very different conventions for adding emphasis to words.
