- [Instructor] The nav bar here, says "home", "browse", and "search". Now again, anytime we want to customize we go to content and design. And then we select in our icon. We get the tool, meaning we can't delete this we do need it. This is how we navigate around the website. So the layout style's vertical. There are different ways to do it. Horizontal would be a little bit odd over there, because of the way that it's set up. So I think vertical makes more sense. Accordion, would not quite work, Footer. So you can go through and take a look at all these.
So we're going to stick to vertical. Alignment center, left, right. As you're playing with this, I really want you to appreciate how a lot of this is either drag and drop or click, right? I'm just making selections and I'm able to see in real time, how the selections affect how my site looks. So it's very natural, it's very well designed. Text size again we've done this already. Maybe a little smaller. I find that when I have a lot of choices that I want to go smaller so they fit. If I only had three choices, you could something a little bit larger.
But we're going to add some more there. The color muted, I like it to be a little bit lighter than black, I like it to be gray, so I'm liking that. You'll notice that there's very few things I actually have to change because what they're trying to do, is make it look great from the beginning. That's what a designer's job is to do. So we will tweak it here and there but not a lot. Okay, now let's come over to links. Links are essentially what these are going to bring us to, where they're going to help us navigate on the website itself. And these links may change as you build the site.
So the first one we see is Home. And if I click on it, that's the name, it links to the Home page. Do you want to open the link in a new tab? Meaning if somebody clicks on Home do they get a new page that comes up? That wouldn't make a lot of sense for this. Because home means "hey I want to start from scratch." So we do not want to have it open there. I like the name home, it makes sense, people know what it means. And I like it going to the Home page. Exactly where it should go. So that doesn't need to change. Now you notice I can click, and drag, and I can move this wherever I want.
Another great feature. But home is always a good place to start. Now Browse, now what is Browse? Goes to a Browse page, I don't have a Browse page, that doesn't make sense to me. That doesn't work for me. So this is something that I can change. I'm going to say, "where do I want to go to after Home?" I want people to, maybe go to my Galleries, or maybe I want an About page. So there's different ways we can do it but right now, do Galleries, and we'll Link To, and then these are the different things that you can go to. Contact form, Search, Page, Custom URL.
So we'll notice there's different things that we can do. Okay, and then we can always open link in new tab. Now again, I think we need to have that off in this situation. Okay, so as we go here, we'll notice that we may not have the page, that we're looking for. And so we need to continue to build pages, okay. In this situation, I can have it linked to a specific gallery, and hit done. And that one's New Zealand. And we'll say "Not, off on that" and hit done.
And let's come and let's change this one as well. Search. If you do a lot of keywording, you could do search. I tend not to, so I'm going to change this one to the About page. And it's so important to have a page about who you are, the ability to describe, and really what you're all about. And to have the ability to be contacted. We're going to have that thumb to a contact form or you could do a page of you're choice. And again pick one. And you'll notice that there's just not a lot going on here.
So what's happening essentially is as I'm building the nav bar, I realize, hey wait I second, I don't have a lot to link to 'cause I haven't built it yet. So, I wanted to introduce the nav bar 'cause it's on the Home page and it's right there. I want you to understand what exactly it does. And as we build the site, we'll be able to come back to it and that'll help us navigate. It's one of those things where it's kind of your table of contents but without the book, you can't really link to anything until you've written it. So we're going to go and hit done.
And About page said "hey there's nothing to link to there." So we'll go ahead and come here and we're going to just throw that one away for now. Hit done. And done go ahead and publish. And we've done two things. We went Home, so if I click on Home, guess what? Comes right to the Home page. Beautiful and galleries goes right to the New Zealand gallery. We're only able to do two, 'cause it's all we have right now. We have a Home page, we have a New Zealand gallery page, and now we have it set up in the nav bar, nice and simple.
