The Skype phone feature allows you to place calls to mobile phones and landlines. Learn about how this is a great way to make international calls by taking advantage of its low rates, which are specific to the country you are calling, in this video.
- [Oliver] Skype is an amazing video conferencing platform, but it does more than this. Through Skype, you also have the ability to communicate with people who don't have a Skype account, by calling mobile phones or landlines. This feature does cost money, but it's very reasonable, as Skype has low domestic and international calling rates. You can pay for calls to mobile and landline numbers using Skype Credit or by purchasing a subscription plan. In the previous video, I already purchased $5 in Skype Credit. So here we'll take a look at how to place a call. Now, I'm in the United States.
And for this example, I'm going to place a call that's also in the United States. But in my opinion, the best use for this feature is for making international calls because the rates are extremely low. This is great if you need to call someone in another country or if you're out of the country and need to call back home. So on my Skype desktop app, I'm going to go to the top and select the dial pad icon. Now, once I click that, it brings up the dial pad. You'll notice here that it's letting me know I have $5 in Skype Credit, so I am able to make a call.
And I have selected right now the United States, but I could select the region or the country here that I wanted to call. I'm going to keep it set at United States. Now, when I'm ready, I can dial the number, and I'll go ahead and do that. (computer beeping) One I have that in, it will let me know the amount that it will cost. And in this case, it's 2.3 cents per minute. And I'm going to go ahead and click Call. (computer dinging and chiming) (phone ringing) - [Toby] Hello? - [Oliver] Hi, Toby, this is Oliver calling.
How are you? - I'm good, how are you today? - Good, I'm using Skype to call your phone right now, so can you hear me all right? - I sure can. - Awesome. Okay, well, thank you very much. Have a great day. - You too, buh-bye. - All right, bye. And when I'm done, (phone clicks) I can hang up that call. And like that, I was able to place that message to Toby's phone using Skype. So like I said, I'm able to make these calls using the Skype platform. I suggest looking into this option if you ever are in need of making international calls or you want a web-based way to call mobile phones and landlines at very reasonable rates.
