A primer on exposure values (EVs)

- [Instructor] Now whilst many existing V-Ray users are probably no stranger to using real-world camera parameters, such as f-number, shutter speed, and film speed or ISO, in order to control the exposure of a render, what some of us may not be quite so familiar with are the exposure values, or EVs, that the camera in V-Ray for SketchUp now uses by default. An exposure value being just a quick and easy way for us to describe the amount of light present in a given environment. Once that has been measured, and so an exposure value established, the EV number can then be used to automatically dial in the necessary exposure settings for us and so give us a theoretical best exposure for the shot that we are wanting to take. What is really interesting here though, is the fact that an exposure value doesn't actually give us an exact or specific set of parameters that need to be used in order to achieve the exposure that we are after.
