Why polygons matter

- [Instructor] When using the 3D Warehouse, you may have noticed some information about polygons. So what's a polygon, and why does that count matter? Well, in SketchUp, there are actually no curves. If I draw a circle, and I zoom in on it a bit, I can see that it's actually comprised of straight edges. So the default number of edges in a circle is 24, but I have some control over that. So, if I want to draw a circle that looks smoother, I can hit C for circle, and I can see down here in the Measurements box that it's going to have 24 sides. I can make that a higher number, say 64, Enter, and now, when I draw a circle, it's going to have 64 sides and look quite a bit smoother than the circle to the left with 24 sides. I can also change it after I've made the circle. I'm going to draw a third circle, but this time, I'm going to make it have even more sides, say 132. So I'm going to draw the circle, click and release to drop it, and I'm going to type 132, S for sides, Enter. Now, it's…
