- [Instructor] Of all the map types that have been introduced in V-Ray for SketchUp in recent releases, one of the most useful, at least in some situations, is the Triplanar map, which essentially gives us the ability to use bitmaps and other 2D textures on objects that don't currently have usable UV coordinates applied to them. It works as illustrated here on the graphic for the Tri Planar node as found in substance designer by projecting one or more textures along object space axis according to the set up of surface normals on the geometry, and can be used with both color and bump maps. To show how this map type works let's open up the asset editor, and in the diffuse map slot of the base gray material assigned to the shaded ball. Add a grand map.
