In this video, Tammy demonstrates how to pull a material from the 3D Warehouse to use in the 3D model. Materials are also pulled from another 3D model and from a material palette.
- [Instructor] While SketchUp has a library of materials readily available in the Materials window it is somewhat limited. So it can be a good option to find materials elsewhere. The 3D Warehouse provides alternate options to the SketchUp Material Library. Open the 3D Warehouse either under Window 3D Warehouse or on the 3D Warehouse icon here. Once we're in the warehouse we're going to search for a texture. So I'm going to type water texture, Enter.
And now I can see that I have a few options available. I'm going to go ahead and click on the first one and look a little more closely at these. I can either use the Materials option on the right by clicking on that. And looking at these thumbnails I can download them directly into my paint bucket tool just by clicking Download. Instead though I'd like to bring the entire pallet into my model. So I'm going to scroll down and click on the Download button. Yes I'd like to load it directly into my model.
And it's going to bring all of these colors. Whew it's a little bit big, that's fine. And I'm going to click and release to set them down. This is not going to stay there. I just need them for the colors. So I'm going to open the Materials window by clicking on my paint bucket and on the brick icon. Using the Colors and Model Library in the dropdown window I can scroll down and I can see that these textures are now in my Colors and Model pallet here.
So I'm going to zoom in a bit on this pool, hit my spacebar and double click into this group so that I have access to this face here that I'd like to apply the material to. And now I can take a few samples of my newly imported water texture and find one that I like. I'm happy with that one so I'm going to hit spacebar and either Escape or click into some white space. And now that I'm done with these big buckets over here I can go ahead and select that group and then hit delete.
