SketchUp Viewer for desktop and mobile
- [Narrator] Hi, I'm George Maestri and today we're going to take a look at SketchUp Viewer. Now this is a way to view your SketchUp models in a variety of contexts. You can view them on the desktop, mobile, and also through the HoloLens. So we're going to take a look at desktop and mobile. Now before we get started, let's just take a look at how to find SketchUp Viewer. Well we can find it on the web under www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-viewer. Now you'll notice when you loaded this page we have three options here. One is for HoloLens, mobile, and desktop. So the desktop version is really just very similar to SketchUp. And I'll show you that in a bit. But you can certainly download that and install it when you want. The mobile viewer works for iOS and Android. So if you go to the Apple store, you'll notice that this is currently $9.99. And over on the Android store it's again $9.99. So it is a small price, but it can be very useful. Now finally, there is the HoloLens viewer and that's a completely different topic. Because you will need a HoloLens. And this is a lot more expensive and sophisticated. So let's just take a look at mobile and desktop. So I have the desktop viewer for Windows, installed here. So let's go ahead and double click on it and open it. And the main thing you'll notice is that this looks a lot like SketchUp. So if I open up a scene here. I'm opening up skydome.sketchup, which was from another lesson here. And you can see that this looks very, very similar to SketchUp. The buttons along the top and the toolbars are a little bit different, but really its' very recognizable. So we have, along the left hand side here, we have our navigation tools, which are orbit, pan, and zoom. As well as look at and walk around. And the hot keys work the same, everything is the same. Now what's really nice is there are some nice, standard views here that you can use. And again, you can rotate your way out of it. And then we also have a couple tool wires here to switch between views. Now just like in regular SketchUp, we do have a trail on the side for the Windows version. And there will be Windows on the Macintosh version. And again you can change things such as shadows and you can, again, change your display settings here as well. So I think if you view SketchUp just a little bit, you should be able to get this pretty easily. Now the next version is the mobile version. Now I have an Android emulator. And I'm going to try and show it to you in emulation. So here I have this, running in an Android emulator on Windows. And as you can see we've got an actual structure here, working in Android. Now the Android viewer and the iOS version are very similar. Again, I'm showing you the Android version. So let's go ahead, actually from the bottom to the top along the control bar here, along the left hand side of the screen. So in the bottom left hand corner, is navigation. We have orbit, pan, zoom, and so on. So if I were to select pan, then I can pan my model around. If I were to select orbit, I can orbit. And we also have zoom, zoom extents and so on. Now if we go to the second one, which are these little eyeglass icons, this really allows us to turn on or off different parts of the scene. So if I wanted to turn on hidden geometry I can do that, section planes and so on. I can change my edge styles here. So if I were to, say, turn on depth cue I could certainly do that. I could turn on back edges to kind of show a little bit more of an x-ray effect and so on. We also have phase styles. So if I want to I can turn on x-ray mode. I can do a shaded mode or shaded with textures. I can turn transparency on or off. And if I have a watermark, I can certainly work with that as well. Next up is this little camera icon. And that's basically the field of view of your camera. So if you want to make your camera wider or narrower, you can do that here. One up here are layers. We can turn layers on or off. So it's really nice to be able to do that. So, again, we can have a lot of control over how we view this model on mobile. Under scenes, we actually can animate through scenes. But the more important thing is that we can actually switch between them. So if we wanted to go to a front view you can certainly do that. We can do an iso view. and any number of these standard exterior or interior views as well. We also have a tape measure tool. And if we hit home, that just gets rid of this menu. So, the SketchUp viewer is available for desktop, mobile, and HoloLens. And it allows individuals to view your SketchUp models wherever they are at.
