In this video we're going to take a quick look at the advantages of digital sketching. This is a huge subject, but I'm just going to pinpoint some of the areas that really are quite important for me. First of all, it's a very forgiving format. In this case if I'm trying to create a line that works for me, I can just quickly undo. While I'm creating these lines, just by pressing a hot key on my Cintiq, or on my keyboard. Another point that's important, it's very easy to learn a product like this. Now with the internet, and with the online community you can get some great tips and techniques just by going on the internet and doing a search for a product like Sketchbook Pro.
In a digital format, easy to share information. We can email this information, we can put it onto Dropbox, or we can just put it on a USB drive. Another point that's very important for me is that I can create multiple iterations very quickly. I can save the file, I can duplicate layers. And in my industry it's important that we have the ability to create multiple iterations very quickly. Another point that's very important is we have access to a whole library of pens and brushes. Each one of these pens and brushes can be modified using the Brush Properties, saved and customized for our particular project.
Now there are some disadvantages. In this particular setup that I have, I have a 22HD, I have a PC, and I also have to buy the software. So it is a little bit more expensive in that respect. It's not always easy to transport this. Although Cintiq have a new companion product out, that you can actually take with you. And also, going straight into medium that's digital, you can sometimes skip over the foundations of sketching, that you can only learn by doing it manually. Having said that, it's a great product to use and you can create some very compelling digital sketches, using SketchBook Pro.
