Learn how utilizing existing UI libraries can be beneficial to quickly establish UI patterns.
- [Instructor] Templates for members of the design community can be a big help when you're looking to leverage common patterns as a starting point. I look to these as existing assets that can be built upon to fit the needs of a design. You can find brand-specific guidelines that companies release to the community in the form of PhotoShop or Sketch files to ensure that their guidelines are being very closely followed. Google does this, for example, with what they call their sticker sheets. Sketch App Sources is a site I've used in the past that's been a great resource for free templates from the design community.
I tend to keep a library of templates at all times and often leverage these for specific components or the entire system itself to inform a design direction. In addition to Sketch app sources, we're going to be using a template provided by Invision. And this is free to download if you go to their website it's chat invision template. And we're just going to be using a subset of these screens, but as you can see, this is kind of a cool, modern-looking UI kit. Feel free to download the template from invisionapp.com if you'd like to use the full set but we're going to be using a subset for this course, so if you'd like to follow along, use the file provided.
