Tree views

Tree views show a hierarchical list of relationships between objects. They're commonly used for file structures or other type of nested information. Tree views are similar to accordions in that they also expand and collapse. But tree views can have a deeper hierarchy than an accordion. When you use a Tree view pattern, you don't want the hierarchy to go very deep, as it becomes difficult to navigate. They can have various levels of hierarchy, and this will largely depend on your use, case and design. The items that make up the tree are called nodes. The nodes at the top of the hierarchy are the parent, while the nodes nested in the parent are referred to as child nodes. Tree views typically have an icon to indicate that there's an expand collapse interaction. This can be a plus minus icon or a caret.
