MIDI keyboard input of chord symbols

- [Narrator] This is going to be a very quick video about inputting chord symbols by playing chords on your midi keyboard instead of typing them in as text. It's remarkably easy to do, and here's how you do it. Similar to regular chord-text input, you have to select a note or rest where you'd like to begin and then use ctrl + k on windows or cmd + k on mac to get into chord symbol input mode. When the flashing cursor appears, rather than typing in your chord symbols, if you have a midi keyboard hooked up to your system, simply play the notes of a chord on your midi keyboard. (chord sound plays) Sibelius will analyze what you played and will input the corresponding chord symbol for you. (chord sound plays) Additionally, the flashing cursor automatically advances to the next note or beat after you play a chord on your midi keyboard, so you don't even have to space bar or tab to continue on. Although you can, and you likely will, because there's usually a bit of space between chord symbols. (chord sound plays) And as usual, when you're done inputting chord symbols, use escape twice. First, to exit chord symbol input mode, and a second time to de-select your previously inputted chord symbol. Keep in mind that as you do this, as you play these in, you need to play chords in root position. Otherwise, Sibelius will input the chord and will indicate it's inversion by showing its root note. Let me show you that. (note sound plays) Ctrl or cmd + k (chord sound plays) And that was C major over E So this provides you with another way to input your chord symbols. Remember that you still have to get yourself into chord symbol input mode using ctrl or cmd + k first, in order for Sibelius to write in a chord symbol for you. If you forget that simple step, then you'll end up writing in a bunch of notes on the page instead of a chord symbol. So that's a brief lesson on how to input chord symbols in chord symbol input mode by using your midi keyboard.
