The trouble with shooting windows

- Often when you start shooting video and begin to try to re-create seemingly simple shots that you've seen in many other projects, you can quickly discover that some things are more difficult to pull off than they look. Well, shooting an interior scene with a day-lit window is definitely one of those scenarios that presents a few more challenges than most filmmakers realize the first time they try it. You know, you scout some location with a great view of the ocean, a Central Park through one window, and it's a perfect background for the scene, but when you go to actually shoot it on video the background ends up totally blown out, it looks very blue, or you just can't see it anymore because now you just have a reflection off of the window.
