Using a shotgun mic

- Recording a musical performance from a shotgun mic on the camera is also not an ideal situation for live events but there are a few things you can do to make it work a little better for you. Here they are in order. First, try to use a high-quality, external shotgun mic mounted on the camera. Next, use the mic attenuation feature, if your camera has one, to avoid rumbling, over modulated audio, if you're positioned near loud speakers. And third, as best you can, try to position yourself in the sweet spot of the venue where the speakers aren't too far away or too close to the camera to get a good live room sound. Apart from that, if you're stationed in the audio sweet spot of the club, there's a very good chance that the patrons of that club are also stationed there and dancing there, and bumping you and your camera there. So I recommend standing in front of a wall, a column, or a pole, or otherwise finding a more defensible position from the crowd. An assistant or some caution tape…
