Test the gear out
- Rental tip number three, check everything at the rental house. This one is huge. You've gotta, yes, gotta, check everything in any kit that you rent no matter how simple or mundane the equipment is because nowhere is Murphy's Law, "Anything "that can go wrong, will go wrong," more prevalent than in the world of film-making. So always do test recordings of audio when renting audio equipment. If you have four XLR cables and three mics in the audio kit, hook up and test all of them. If you get a tripod, extend all the stages of the legs, make sure it fits your camera, pan and tilt it. If a piece of equipment comes with batteries check that every single battery is actually the right type of battery and fully charged. Do you have a working battery charger? If not, you ain't charging anything on your shoot so you better check that, too. If you're renting lights, I want you to plug in, spot and flood, and test every light, cable, stand and accessory in that kit and of course you wanna…
