The job of producing a promotional video, apart from budgeting, involves several key aspects which are hiring the crew, scheduling, and working out all of the logistics. When it comes to hiring a crew, the most valuable thing I think you can do beforehand, any time as a filmmaker, is to start developing a network of trusted fellow filmmakers. The way I like to develop a network of filmmakers is simply by helping other people with their shoots. Not only does this help me with my own filmmaking education, but it also helps me build up favors and find out who's good at what they do. Now when you're developing this network of filmmakers, you want to make sure that you know who has what equipment. Many times a job might come in with very short notice. When this happens I don't want to turn down that opportunity, so it's important that I have a list of who has what equipment and the basic rates that they'll work for.
