Ordering your own gobos

- You know, Rich, I've already demonstrated that when it comes to cutting gobos, I'm not the person that you probably want to work with. - Rob got color out of the art class but he really didn't get hand-eye coordination. - Yeah, didn't get that. But the thing is that there are plenty of people in the world, obviously, who are very talented artists and can do these patterns and fractals and all sorts of really fancy things, whether it's digitally or drawing it. And the cool thing is that there are companies out there that can take your designs and what you've drawn and designed and actually make it into something kind of like this. Now, it doesn't have to be a metal gobo, it could be cut on foam board or printed on a sheet or something like that. But the point is, it could be designed and you can even put it on something like glass. - Yeah, so you can get these made, sort of, two different ways. We have two different logos here from projects we've worked on. One that's a colored gobo, that's glass that's custom printed. One that's a silhouette logo. There's two different companies that make these, I'm sure there's more. The two that I've personally used is Thegobo.com and, of course, Rosco that sells you their collection will make your own ones too. You just simply go to their websites and what they have there are templates that you download. So they'll give you either a Photoshop or an Illustrator template, hand it off to your designer or your art department and say, "Hey, here's the client "logo, make me a pattern," and they'll manufacture it. - And it's perfect for things like that, the client logo, or maybe you do a talk show or news show every week and you want to have that, kind of that pattern, that logo, or that word in the background, really easy to create. And again, remember, Rich, this doesn't just have to be for a background. These can be projected on the floor in the front of a set, they could be projected on a desk or somewhere like that. It's not just for backgrounds. The point is, like all gobos, this is going to give you the option of having, sort of a custom bespoke texture anywhere that you need it. - The big thing to realize, though, is that they do take some manufacturing time, so if you need this in two days, you're gonna pay a lot more than if you need it in two weeks, so allow adequate planning time. Don't let the bolt of inspiration hit and then suddenly try to get it overnighted. It just won't happen for these custom gobos.
