Lighting for a film look

- Just because your 5D Mark III can capture an image in available light, doesn't mean that you should, especially if you're trying to achieve a film look. A big part of the reason film looks better than video is the lighting. Avoid low light situations whenever possible and use professional lighting gear for controlled setups. When it comes to the professional look of your project, apart from a good DP, hiring a good and experienced lighting person is probably hands down the very best investment you can make in getting a film look, regardless of what camera you're shooting on, whether it's an Alexa or an iPhone. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee you that any narrative cell phone cinema production you've seen, that actually looks good, was almost certainly do to careful attention paid to lighting.
