Getting a film look with software
- If you want to kick it up a notch and go beyond the generic film look, there are a slew of popular editing program plug-ins such as FilmConvert and the Magic Bullet Software Suite that actually mimic various film stocks and development processes used by big budget features. What's great about these programs is that they can be applied after the fact to footage shot at a variety of different framerates, and allow you to really customize the exact type of film look you want. Of course, if you're talking software, you're also talking about an extra investment in post-production time, money, and hard drive space but I think it's a guaranteed way to experiment and tweak the custom look, even down to the exact level of grain and color reproduction you'd like.
