Getting all the manuals

- Mental tip number 5, get the manuals. Now this is a simple, but crucial tip. You always want to make sure you get a user's manual for any rental gear especially if it's a camera or piece of equipment that you are your crew aren't already familiar with. It's incredibly frustrating spending 20 minutes on set trying to figure out something simple such as how to put a camera in slow motion, or how to assemble some high-tech stabilizer that you've never used before. Having a user manual on hand will save you time and frustration on set. Fortunately, even if the rental house doesn't have a manual, you can often access a PDF file of most equipment manuals on the manufacturer's website, or on a site like manualsonline.com which hosts a large collection of free, downloadable PDF manuals. So even if you do have a paper manual, I think it's still a nice convenience to have a searchable, digital copy at the ready on your phone or iPad anytime you might need it on set.
