Creating a shot list

The necessity and value of a script is obvious. However, shot list and story boards that layout the project visually, can be just as vital depending on the complexity of your project. Now more often than not, I just use simple written shot list that list close-ups, medium shots and I just try to brainstorm. Every possible image especially what I like to call the money shots that I want to make sure that I get for a project. It's really just a list of shots to help me think through what I need to shoot when I'm on location in the heat of production. But I'm also a huge fan of storyboarding. Storyboards always make any project go smoother even if they're just stick figure drawings. The mere act of visualizing your ideas on paper will help you anticipate production problems, get a better handle on your story and communicate your vision more clearly to everyone involved.
