Benefits of using fast primes
- Rich, when we began off this week, we mentioned that fast prime lenses are, kind of, addiction. And I can attest to that. I have a rather large collection of lenses that I keep acquiring. The problem, of course, is that I require different prime lenses, I mean fast lenses, for different camera systems that I use. - Yeah. - And so I end up with, I have Cannon lenses, I have third party lenses. The reason to shoot with a fast lens, in my mind, is two- or three-fold. Fist, you want to have the most light-gathering capability that you can have. Right? -Yeah. - And shooting wide open on a very fast lens, you know, f/1.2, 1.4, is going to let in a lot of light compare to, say, consumer lenses that you'll find out there, you know, slower lenses that might be a f/3.5 or f/4. That's a couple stops different. - Well, it really depends on your style of shooting, you know. For example, here I've got a decent Lumix lens. This lens goes down to 1.4.
