- So we've talked a little about what causes moiré, but even more than technical explanations, what I'm always most concerned about are practical solutions to solve or avoid everyday film-making problems. So here are my 5 Ways to Lose Moiré. Number one: Wardrobe. The main thing I recommend you do to avoid moiré is to try to avoid the types of tight-lined patterns that cause moiré to begin with. Now, you can't always do this in the natural world where there are buildings and background patterns at your location that are simply what you have to work with. However, you can definitely exercise some control over most of the people and talent that appear in your video by always making sure that you instruct them to do two things: One, make sure you tell them ahead of time not to wear any pinstripes, herringbone, checkers, or other similar clothing patterns.
