What is business intelligence?

- [Instructor] Although we're presupposing that you have some grounding in pivot tables and SharePoint, there are a few things that I think we need to talk about before we get into the nuts and bolts part of the course. In the introduction of the course, I used the term Business Intelligence. In case you're not familiar with that, let me give you a definition. According to Wikipedia, business intelligence is a set of methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information used to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making. So taking information from a spreadsheet or SharePoint list and turning that into an easy-to-understand report or view would be an essential part of that. But business intelligence, or BI, is more than just creating a report. Reporting lets you understand the history and current status of your information.
