- [Instructor] A second category of CMS products are those built on Open-Source Platforms. Now in case you're a little fuzzy on what that means, let's define it. Open-source software means that the underlying source code used to build the program has been released publicly. The creator and copyright holder has granted the rights for anyone who wishes to use, modify and distribute the software. WordPress, Drupal, Joomla! are some of the most popular CMS platforms, and they're all open-source, written in the PHP language. Now the biggest advantage to open-source is the price. It's effectively free. Although there are caveats to that. There's also a large community of other users who are sometimes very willing to provide support and guidance.
