Certainly it doesn't hurt to know basic node JS concepts as well but specific to SharePoint Framework, you should watch this official documentation site that Microsoft has put together for us. There is a lot of help here and it's all community driven. If you have something to contribute, just click this edit button and submit them a pull request. Also on YouTube, search for SharePoint pnp. When you search for SharePoint pnp, you should be able to find a channel called SharePoint Office 365 dev Patterns and Practices. Here the PnP group puts out a lot of good guidance that is about SharePoint Framework and a lot more. And from here, you'll be able to learn a lot of interesting things about SharePoint Framework.
